When you are configuring an email account, Thunderbird will often be able to do most of the configuration automatically.
However, you will need to manually configure your account if your email provider is not listed in Thunderbird's automatic configuration database, or if you have a non-standard email configuration. This page will show you the basic settings you need to send and receive emails.
Step 1: First, open Accounts > Create new account.
Step 2: Enter Your name, Email address and Password and then click Continue.
Step 3: Select POP or IMAP as the type of incoming server you are using as given below in the screen shot. Your incoming server will be mail.domainname.com.au (Ex: mail.dqhosting.com.au) for POP or IMAP. Click Done.

Step 4: Your Thunderbird email client is ready for use.
